I'm loving the glorious and sometimes inexpressible joys of autumn...or almost autumn!
Evenings here in southern Oregon have cooled, and for a bit longer, the days will continue to be perfect; most highs around 80 degrees
with golden light and a slight breeze.
The following poem by George Eliot expresses it well.
Delicious autumn!
My very soul is wedded to it,
and if I were a bird
I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot. May inexpressible joys surround you today.

I f I W e r e a B i r d . . .
Hmmm . . . which would I be
For choices are plenty to me
But not one of an eagle who graces the sky,
Not an owl nor raven considered both sly
And parrots, though with colorful wings,
Are nice . . . but also noisy things.
I think most of all
I would rather be a bird that’s small.
Yes, one that’s small and yellow
One not loud but mellow. . .
A golden finch, as near as I can tell,
Perhaps would suit me well.
I believe they’re cute in every way
They’re simply beautiful I say.
Those distinctive sounds they make
Are like songs from one in a care-free state
And this thing about the color I guess
Implies to me a softness
To be felt each time the little bird lands
Maybe even cradled by my gentle hands.
Just their mere passive image at a glance
Accompanies a tender appearance
Of tiny wings in delicate motion
Gives me this added notion . . .
That me as a golden finch would be so right
To fly with freedom in an effortless flight.
